The Lucas Museum hosted it's first public event—Lucas Museum at Leimert: Family Art Day—a special family art-making day in Leimert Park! The program was free and open to all ages.

With an eye toward the children’s book illustrations in the museum's collection, which feature fantastic creatures of all types, families created their own creature masks, engaged with film and TV makeup artist Ana Miro to create a real life mermaid, and watched demonstrations by Star Wars concept artist Terryl Whitlatch and Walt Disney Animation Studio artist Manu Arenas.
